Delhi gets its first solar water purification plant

Set up at the  Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya in east Delhi, the facility uses solar-powered panels and micro-ionisation water purification processes, to convert brackish water into potable drinking water. The plant will produce 5000 litres of water per day.

Repeat militant attack on Wular Conservation Project in Kashmir

Militants struck once again at the Rs 390 crore centrally-funded Wular Conservation Project in Kashmir. In an earlier attack seven months ago, a group of militants had swooped down on the project and snatched away maps and documents. It is believed that the militants are working on instructions from Pakistan, which has been strongly opposing the building of a barrage on the Wular.

Dengue in West Bengal, leaves 600 affected

Dengue continued its march unabated in a rain-deficit West Bengal, leaving 600 people affected all over the state. Rains normally wash away the larvae of Aedes Aegypti, the mosquito that carries the dengue virus. With rains at a 10-year low in the state, dengue has had a free run.

Encephalitis toll rises in eastern Uttar Pradesh

Even as dengue continued to rage in West Bengal, the encephalitis toll rose to 225 in Gorakhpur and other districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Five children were reported dead in a single day from a hospital in Gorakhpur from the disease. Meanwhile, as  many as 50 fresh patients  were admitted to the BRD Medical College Hospital within the space of a single day on Saturday.
