This document is a press release by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). It sheds light on the current status of monsoon 2012 and forecast for next one week. It purpose of the document, is to give a detailed description of monsoon condition in the country. This is done by, drawing information from the onset of monsoon 2012, till the present scenario.

Below is the order in, which the document highlights the key aspects of monsoon conditions.

  1.  Statistical data of weekly (19-25 July) rainfall of northwest-India, central India, south peninsula and south and north-east India- It shows that 50% of the country has received excess/normal rainfall and the remaining area has received deficient/ scanty rainfall.
  2. The rainfall scenario of July month has been 13% below long period average (LPA) with near normal rainfall in central India, peninsula and south and north-east India. In north-west it has been 25% below LPA.
  3. Seasonal rainfall scenario from 1st June to 1st August 2012, shows that overall rainfall up to 1st of August, has been 19 % below LPA.

The meteorological analysis of the monsoon condition and the forecast from 4- 10 August are the final sections of the document followed by maps on rainfall for week and rainfall for period.
