Chennai Corporation to extend an assistance of Rs. 8000 for constructing household toilets
Corporation of Chennai has decided to extend a subsidy of Rs. 8000 to help residents construct a toilet at home. Residents who wish to avail the subsidy can fill up requisition forms at their respective ward offices. The amount will be transferred directly into the beneficiary's account once a field officer visits the site, verifies and approves the claim.
Up to Rs.1 lakh fine for openly burning waste in the capital: Delhi Municipal Corporations
In a bid to curb rising pollution in the Capital, all three municipal corporations of Delhi have decided to impose a fine of upto Rs. 1 lakh for openly burning waste. Earlier, offenders of the no-burning of waste in public rule were fined Rs. 5000. After the recent notification, offenders could be fined anywhere between Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 1,00,000 for burning plastics, rubber, paper or grass in public places.
JICA provides Rs 1,000 crore soft loan to clean up Pune's Mula-Mutha River
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to provide a soft loan of Rs. 1,000 crore to clean up Pune's heavily polluted Mula-Mutha River under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP). Under the project, 11 new sewage treatment plants will be constructed along the river to reduce the pollution load and improve water quality. Inadequate sewerage connections and treatment facilities along with rampant open defecation along the banks are mainly responsible for the River's sorry state.
Out of the 4,000 metric tonnes of waste Hyderabad generates in a day, less than 0.1% is recyclable
Despite announcing a revamped waste management plan several months back, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took almost a year to provide residents with separate bins to segregate waste at source. At present, out of the 4,000 metric tonnes of waste the city generates in a day, less than 0.1% of what reaches the dumpyard is recyclable. 2,000 garbage tippers will soon be deployed to carry segregated wastes. While tipper operators and residential associations will be encouraged to separate and sell recyclables, wet waste will be composted in a separate facility.
Bengaluru Political Action Committee honours pourakarmikas and other sanitation workers for their public service
The Bengaluru Political Action Committee honoured 21 pourakarmikas for their commitment to keeping Bengaluru clean. City sanitation workers, gardeners and sweepers were selected on the basis of their experience, skills, honesty and work ethics. All 21 winners were felicitated for their tireless efforts in addition to being presented with a cheque worth Rs 5,000 along with a certificate of appreciation.
