WaterAid India's northern regional office and the Government of Bihar's Department of Disaster Preparedness are carrying out a disaster preparation programme in five districts of Bihar - Muzzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samsastipur and Sitamarhi .

The main focus of this project is the provision of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation to communities during flooding and appropriate learning materials have been prepared in Hindi. The underlying slogan in all the posters, radio slots is of 'Knowledge saves lives during floods and storms.'!

The first audio message with a soothing rain song provides tips about clean water sources and toilet practices during the floods as a painless message. The second one affirms the utility of technology and knowledge based techniques for surviving the flood. The third one offers practical knowledge in using chlorination tablets and collecting rain water for drinking water purposes during the flood situation. Posters illustrating the above issues and precautions needed to be taken during floods like safe handling practices for water and washing of hands are available. They are to be displayed on walls at prominent and highly frequented locations and have even been made as stickers meant to be used on the rear of cycle rickshaws, buses and cars. The graphics used in the posters are contextualised and convey the information in an easy to understand manner to all. Access audio & poster resources here: Click here
