The Arkavathi programme interlinks communities that have been traditionally independent from one another. The Arkavathi River is one of the principal tributaries of the Cauvery in Karnataka and flows through Rural, Peri - Urban and Urban areas. Given that the habitats in all these areas were impacted by the Arkavathy sub-basin, an Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) project was initiated for realizing various socio-economic benefits. The project that covered wards, villages and slums aimed to protect the livelihoods of the people, to mobilize and involve the community in sustainable water management practices.
