Heavy metal poisoning is a growing concern in many parts of the country. A new method for removing chromium-6, a highly toxic heavy metal, from waste water has been developed by a group of scientists from India and Ethiopia. They claim it to be low-cost and safe.

The new method uses water hyacinth, a weed known for its ability to spread rapidly over water bodies. It is used for cleansing polluted water bodies owing to its remarkable capacity of absorbing pollutants.

Hi i am working for a project in ETP. Our effluent contains a TDS of 3000 ppm while after equalisation - that is after addition of lime and alum - our TDS increases to 4500 ppm giving our outlet TDS to be 5000 ppm. In this project we haven't installed any tertiary process. It consists of simple equalisation tank, primary clarifier, surface aeration , secondary clarifier followed by sand filter and carbon filter. after addiiton of lime our ph is 11.5 and after addition of alum we maintain a ph of 10.5. Please suggest me some solution for this problem.

Unless industries clean up their act and authorities take it up seriously, Baddi’s water will continue to be polluted causing hardship to its residents.

When Satya Devi was a child, the open well near her house in the village of Malku Majra was the water source for the household. She reminisces, “The water was clean and soft.
