Flood hazard zonation of Assam – An atlas by National Remote Sensing Centre

This flood hazard atlas for the State of Assam prepared by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) is based on an analysis of ten years of multi-temporal satellite datasets acquired during the flood seasons of 1998-2007.

Assam represents a highly flood-prone region characterized by severe hazards of floods. Although occurrence of flood has been an age-old phenomenon in the riverine areas of this region, the extent of damage caused by floods has increased significantly in recent years.

A decade of the Total Sanitation Campaign - Rapid assessment of processes and outcomes - A report by the Water and Sanitation Program (2011)

The Water and Sanitation Program has analysed secondary data on the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) available on government websites and conducted primary analysis in 22 sample districts spread across 21 states. It is concluded that districts that have been able to implement the sanitation programme successfully have done so because they have religiously followed the protocols laid down in the TSC guidelines.

With the use of secondary and primary data the report has not only been able to give a macro view of the TSC but also has been able to go into the nitty-gritty of the campaign. There are case studies of districts and villages that have achieved open defecation free status.

Farmers experiences on System of Rice Intensification in India – A report by ICRISAT-WWF

This report on farmers’ experiences on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in India by ICRISAT and WWF is an effort to compile the experiences of those farmers who pioneered the SRI method in various regions. They experimented in their own way, articulating their point of view on the method.

The SRI is a national phenomenon in India and rice-cultivating farmers, particularly those who have less than one hectare of land, have experimented, refined, adopted and are promoting SRI. It is their hard work and trust that has spread this unknown method into all rice-growing states. Out of 564 rice-growing districts in India, SRI is being practiced by the farmers in about 216 districts.Read More
