Mangrove wetlands of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa - Atlas by MSSRF

Mangrove1These state-wise atlases on mangrove wetlands were prepared by the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) under the India-Canada Environment Facility supported project entitled “Coastal Wetlands: Mangrove Conservation and Management”.

The MSSRF project on fostering the sustainable management of mangrove wetlands in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa had yielded valuable results on the quantitative and qualitative aspects of mangrove wetlands with particular reference to the impact of anthropogenic pressures on the ecosystem on the one hand, and the benefits arising from eco-restoration and mangrove rehabilitation programmes on the other. Seasonal mapping of water bodies along the Andhra Pradesh coast using satellite data – A research report by the National Institute of Hydrology

The report presents the seasonal mapping of water bodies along the Andhra coast using satellite data to analyze the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon variations in the reservoirs. Water resources development be it construction of reservoir, anicut or irrigation canal, calls for mapping of the various water bodies to throw light on its behavior in different seasons in order to plan a judicious water management scheme.

Remote sensing methods are considered to be more appropriate than conventional methods for collection of such information owing to their capability to provide broad synoptic and repetitive coverage of the area in a multi-spectral mode.Read More
