What are the scientific ways to control the water temperature in overhead tank during summer season?
Dear Mr. Zakir
I am David, a consultant for water and waste water engineering, normally it can be possible using heat exchanger method normally we are using the temprature control in our waste water treatment aerobic process.
The initial cost will be more but based on capacity it can be designed.
All the best.
Apart from this you could also use some kind of sophisticated heat exchanger system but that would be costly.

Dear Mr. Zakir, What are the scientific ways to control the water temperature in overhead tank during summer season? There are many ways in which temperature in overhead tank are maintained in a moderate manner:
Would seek members to contribute more thoughts, for water- user’s benefit. And communities to preach and practice Water Mantra of 4Rs- 1st R- Reduce, 2nd R - Re use, 3rd R- Recylce, 4th R- Recharge

Dear Mr. Zakir,
First of all, I would like to know what is the temperature you would like to maintain?
Next, what is the temperature from which you want to reduce?
As far as I know, the easiest way would be to put up some device or structure that would cover the tank and shield it from the heat of the sun.
I have experienced the heat of water from an O/H tank in summer in a place like Chennai. It was bearable for bathing in. However, in summer a bath in cold (ambient temperature) water is comfortable and preferred. This can be done by filling a bucket with the water and leaving it like that for 15 to 30 minutes before having a bath.
I cannot think of a simpler method.

The easiest and cheapest method would be to colour your tank with white paint. This would reflect the heat rays of the sun.

Dear Zakir, The best way to do it is to insulate the tank. However, it is only possible for bungalows or villas where 1 or max. 2 families stay. For large buildings, one needs to have reflective color on tanks to divert heat and have sufficient volume. The best idea is to keep the tank full at all times otherwise the heated air in tanks in the unfilled volume also raises water temperature. The most scientific method is to have tank at full volume always. Also, have piping in ABS or PP-R which resist heat and have them painted with reflective color. All other ideas may be scientific but not practical or not economically viable. Regards,

Dear Zakir, Best way to construct 2 walled brick tank with space inbetween, this will help to minimize the temp a lot as vacuum is insulator to temp. Lalit BokoliaJoint DirectorNational River Conservation DirectorateMinistry of Environment and ForestsGovernment of India
Dear Zakir, As per my knowledge there is no defined protocol to do the task.Application of methods depends on the Material of construction for Tank & temperature difference you expect. Some of the simple methods are
You can have your own alternatives to do the task. Prof. R. V SarafDirectorViraj Envirozing India Pvt. Ltd.Pune, Maharashtra
Any suggestions on cost effective ways of controlling water temperature in overhead tank during summer and winter seasons?
The water in the over head PVC tank (black) gets heated up due to ambient temperature. Any suggestions on preventing this?
