The main thing is the waste water of RO has a higher concentrations of solute and hardness is more and TDS may be less. If you use directly, then the membranes will get choked. This again depends on water. The solution is, in olden days, they used still sand and carbon filters in underground tanks and reprocessing was done with micron cartridges.
