QUESTION
Muddy water problem in borewell

Hi,

We had drilled a borewell in Feb 2009 in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, whose diameter is 6 inches and total depth is 462 feet, while the casing is done till 90 feet. During drilling, we got the water of around 1 inch in 150 feet. According to the driller we got 0.5 inch water at around 350 feet and we went on till 462 feet and then stopped.

From the day of drilling we continued to get a liitle muddy water for initially, but later used to get clean water. But this muddiness has increased drastically from the last 3 to 4 years. We are not sure how to identfy the problem and fix it.

When we switch on the motor, clean water comes for few seconds, then the dark muddy water starts coming out and after few minutes again the clean water (with small content of mud) starts flowing out. Everytime the motor is switched on, we wait for the muddy water to go out before turning the wall to tank. Even the tank water is not very clean and it still has some mud in it and it gets accomodated at the bottom.

I would like to know:

1. What could be the reason for this muddy water?

2. How to identify this issue and fix it?

3. Is there anyone in the group who had similar issues and got it fixed?

 Please help me with this.

Thanks,

Subhash
