QUESTION
Environmental Management of Water and Sanitation Projects: Sharing experiences

Hello,

We are working with a team of engineers and environmental consultants, who are currently researching existing tools and methodologies for assessing the Environmental Impact of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects, particularly small projects at the village or community scale. The output of the project could be some form of assessment tool/guideline that organisations and people could use on the ground to help make informed decisions when planning and implementing their WASH projects.

We are keen to hear from you and others with any thoughts or experiences on the below:

    • What tools or methodologies do you currently use to assess environmental impact and environmental constraints?
    • Do you consider internal factors (e.g. the direct water consumption rate of your project) and/or external factors (e.g. the water consumption rate of other water users in the catchment) when considering environmental aspects of your projects (e.g. water availability and groundwater pressures)?
    • Is there any useful guidance, data, or information, accessible from relevant local organisations e.g. Public Health Engineering Department, or elsewhere which you have found useful?

Look forward to your response aand many thanks for your time.
