International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance

The newsletter focuses on all activities concerning rainwater harvesting, the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) and its partners. This issue summarizes work done during 2011.International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) is conceptually divided into four 'pillars'. The work done in each of these categories is as follows:

  • First Pillar: Project implementation

These projects are part of the Blue Schools programme where rainwater harvesting is used  to assure a clean and sustainable water supply, with sanitation, reforestation and training. In 2011, among other tasks, 15 tanks and 151 toilets were built.

  • Second Pillar: Capacity building and awareness raising

The Rainwater Harvesting Joint Statement was issued with two other organisations,ARCSA and IRCSA, in order to meet World Water Day 2011

  • Third Pillar: Federating the RWH movement

This aims at the unification of the global rainwater harvesting movement.By the end of 2011, IRHA has 91 members from 39  countries. 

  • Fourth Pillar: Political positioning of RWH

This includes work to influence policy at local, national, regional and international levels.
