Cauvery Basin: Water Quality
Water Quality in the Cauvery basin is constantly being monitored at some chosen stations all along the length of the basin by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Although there are very many parameters to determine the quality of the surface water such as Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids, Dissolved Oxygen, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Chlorides, Sulphates, Nitrates, Total Coliform Bacteria, only some of the parameters are discussed in more detail.Of all the parameters discussed here, Cauvery waters perform well wrt pH and nitrate level, but perform poorly for BOD, COD and Total Coliform.
