An important initiative of the India Water Portal has been in creating multimedia courses on different topics
related to water. The intention is to bring together domain experts and the latest in technology to enhance the learning experience. These
multimedia courses can be downloaded to your computer and run from there, or viewed from here, over the internet. The
multimedia courses run on recent versions of most browsers and need Macromedia Flash player version 7.0 and above.
The multimedia courses are free for use but cannot be

Groundwater Management |
This multimedia course covers several areas: GW overexploitation & contamination, GW status assessment, GW resources management, climate parameters and water balance, aquifers, hydrogeology and infiltration, and pumping tests. It introduces community-based groundwater resource management. Extensive use of is made of animation, field photographs and practical situations. The course content was developed by ACWADAM, Pune. Usage: The course is primarily meant for people working in Watershed and Agriculture projects, to give them a better understanding of Groundwater. |

Flouride Mitigation |
This multimedia course is meant for awareness-building in a rural context regarding the fluorosis problem. It starts from the basics of what fluoride is, sources of fluoride intake, how fluoride enters water and the symptoms of fluorosis. It explains the ways of solving this problem with a special emphasis on rainwater harvesting as a source of uncontaminated drinking water. The last portion describes "Sachetana", a government intervention in Karnataka to mitigate the fluoride problem in the most seriously affected villages of the state. The course content was developed by BIRD-K (Baif Institute for Rural Development, Karnataka) Usage: The course is directed towards a general audience in a rural area affected by fluorosis. It can be used by NGOs or government agencies in their awareness building programs. |

Earthen Dam |
Earthen Dams are a very common and cost-effective watershed intervention. This
multimedia course gives an understanding of the principles of earthen dams, the types of earthen dams and the parameters to be considered in their construction. It goes into the detail of the steps to be followed in constructing these dams. 3-D simulation of the dam and the surrounding watershed is very effectively used to
