This lecture, delivered as part of the series 'Living rivers, dying rivers' highlights the rivers of the Western Ghats and the issues confronting them. P.Dandekar and P.Hegde explain that the threats faced by the river are largely of anthropogenic causes such as unsustainable exploitation of the ecosystem's resources and pollution. These lead to shrinking ecosysems and adversely impact the communities in the area. Fortunately, there are increasing instances where communities have risen to save their rivers.
