Lothal Included in the route
Today when was talking to Binayak, my colleague at Arghyam, about ‘Motorcycle Diaries‘ and Inca Civilization, he asked me to visit Lothal. I immediately altered my route to have a look at one of the ancient civilizations of the world - Indus Valley Civilization. I would visit Lothal, a 4500 years old city, on my way from Ahmedabad to Bhuj.

Lothal is also the world’s first tidal dock built around 2500 B.C., during the Harappan civilsation. It is also interesting to note how the ports of Dwarka and Balakot were connected to an ancient route along Sabarmati river (as mentioned in the GreekPeriplus of the Erythraean Sea ).
Ancient trade routes were primarily along rivers and sea ports, the reason why ancient period was the golden period of shipping and ship-building in India. Its amazing how everything revolves around water - even in ancient times, the proximity to water was the reason why India was so well known for its ship-building and navigation, and was also able to disseminate religion and information.

Man! That is an amazing link. I think when we meet in Kolkata, we would have a lot to discuss.
