Wastewater - Explore

The Basics

Take Action

A city’s domestic sewage and industrial discharge is usually treated in its peripheries and the process requires intensive laying of pipes, high energy costs and skilled manpower. Given the large-scale logistics and costs, alternative approaches such as decentralized wastewater treatment, wherein wastewater can be adopted even by single households, offices or schools at source, are being explored. The decentralized wastewater treatment systems, which requires little space and no mechanical parts, is inexpensive when compared to conventional systems, and can also be operated by semi-skilled and unskilled manpower. More importantly, the treatment wastewater can be treated to discharge standards maintained by Central Pollution Control Board and recycled for irrigation.
