Information Required on the Persian Wheel/ Bucket Pump

This is my very first post to the IndiaWaterPortal. I am a student currently doing a Post Graduate Diploma in Visual Communication Design at Srishti, Bangalore. As part of our curriculum this semester we have a course with Mr. Vishwanath, "ZENRAINMAN".

I am currently working on furnishing a Photo Essay on the Persian Wheel. I visited Kolar which is 3.5 hours away from Bangalore. I will be uploading these images soon when I have enough content to post along with them. To view them for now, they are on the facebook group which I have created for our course in Srishti. This way you can also view other work being done and discussions on the group.

Click Here to go to the Photos of the group where the images have been uploaded

I need to now, collect information on the persian wheel.

The history, Its evolution, Function and Its relevance today.

If anyone could help me with the same it would be invaluable to this Photo Essay that I would like to display with Information as well.

I need this information as soon as possible.

Thank you all in advance for your replies and involvement. Any information is appreciated or even leads as to where I can get more information - People/ Books/ Organizations/ Libararies would be helpful.

4. Dear Anushka Sani, All that I

Dear Anushka Sani,

All that I know about it is that is a device powered probably by an animal like a bull of buffalo that turns a wheel and makes another wheel fitted with bukckets to go into a well, pick up water and empty it into a narrow channel which takes the water to a standing crop which needs irrigation.
I would have to do a google search or a wikipedia search to find out more. My suggestion is that you could do this kind of a search and get her information.
