Motor Recovery From Collapsed Borewell - Expert Help Required; Hyderabad

I had dug a borewell for my new house, it was 250 feet deep and had 50 inches HDPE casiing. It worked for the first two months without any trouble whatsoever. The motor was a submersible type.

Currently a sump was being constructed near the borewell, adjacent to the same. A crack in the sump on the borewell side caused the sump to empty and the motor is stuck in the borewell. We tried to recover the motor in vain using compressed air & water to remove the debris and recover the motor.

I need epxert help to deal with the situation, please do let me know regarding the best course of action currently.

Also contact information of experts in the area would be appreciated.

1. Motor recovery

Dear Shreedhar,

Sorry to hear of the mishap, but then it is usual a problem where a sump is excavated unsupervised very close to the bore well.

From what you have written, it is unlikely that the problem has been cause after the the construction of the sump. There must have been  some place from where large size material has dropped down into the bore well ( probably a cracked casing at depth)

The reason I am saying this is that, with the construction of the sump and it getting connected to the bore well, what would be the quantity of material that enters in to the bore well.

Secondly through a crack the material that will enter will be fine and would normally pass around the pump which is hanging in the  well, and settle below the pump which usually is kept to accommodate  such material if and when it tends to fall during the course of time.-unless you have greatly under estimated the size of the opening you say is a crack.

If your pump does not have a build in Non Return valve then it might work, if not then probably the motor may not be recoverable.

Pour  concentrated solution of sodium Hexameta phosphate, or any industrial de-greasing compound. -Minimum 100 liters

after pouring the solution try to create some upward tension on the pipe, supporting cable/rope and the motor cable. This has to be locked in place kept over night in with this tension.

The next day  try to pass water or compressed air through the delivery pipe down into the well through the pump body, keeping the tension on the pipe line constant.

If water/air passes through and starts issuing out from the side of the delivery pipe  within the casing, try to suddenly release the pressure and see if the whole assembly drops slightly lower then what it was earlier.

Try this alternation of air/water and tension release a couple of times, the pump fine material around the pump should get dislodged and the pump and pipeline could be removed easily.

IF it done not budge, then probably you could give it one more days rest and try again, if  you do not meet with success please get in touch with some pump installation company, they my be able to lower rod through the HDPE pipeline with an expanding job at the base which gets locked in the portion within the pump.

This would probably damage the pump a bit, and the cost would be as much as a new pump. The time taken for this kind of job is never fixed.

Best of luck

2. Dear Mohan,   As per the

Dear Mohan,

As per the description given by you the situation is hopeless.

  1. The motor can not be retrieved, as the casing pipe appears to be cracked, which has allowed mud to go into the bore. Recovery of motor and pipes in such cases is extremely difficult/ nearly impossible.
  2. You said that the casing pipe is HDPE 50 inches. This is surprising, as the domestic borewell caisng can not have a dia of 50 inches. Can you please check this and give me the correct size of the casing pipe. The dia of the casing pipe is important to solve your problem.

3. Thank you for reply

Dear sudhindhra mohan,

It is nice to hear adivce from you. By god grace i got my motor from bore well.

I reinstalled the motor And it is working fine now.

I am sorry about my wrong data (50INCH casing pipe) ,  What i mean to say is casing pipe installed up to 50 feets deep.

thank you

5. Motor Recovered From Collapsed Bore well

Sir,

We have recovered the motor as follows

we called a new motor recovery unit with high load chain block pulley and they were able to pull out it was not coming then they told there was a water leakage from 24o feet and it is going down and the water has Sault  and after few days the Sault become rock , so to clear this they connected a gear wheel for 6 inches dia and the same was attached with the existing pipe and they have inserted  the same up to 240 feet after 240 feet they have started rotating clock wise and insetring the pipe till 300 feet then the Sault type rock was cleaned and we got removed motor safely

Regards.
