Borewell Subsidies - Govt. Schemes for Agricultural Purposes: Karwar, Karnataka
Submitted by iwp on July 23, 2009 - 01:34
I am from Karwar(NK) District in Karnataka. I am a land owner with 3 acres of agricultural land. Are there any Karnataka government subsidies for borewell drilling or implementation that I am eligible for? Information regarding the same and also contact information regarding the relevant offices / officers will be appreciated.
Umesh

Dear Umesh,
My answer to a similar question at http://www.indiawaterportal.org/ask/5739 gives the present policy of India in not encouraging farmers from sinking bore wells.
You can know from the latest budget analysis of Karnataka at http://www.merinews.com/catFull.jsp?articleID=137827 that the State Government has provided a budget of Rs. 100 crore to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board for providing drinking water to the newly-added areas through bore wells. There is no similar budget provision to pay subsidies for farmers sinking bore wells. There is not even provision to provide extension service to farmers sinking bore wells and thereby prevent them from wasting money on faulty well sinking operations.
