Urban Development & Water Resources - Whitefield Area : Student Seeks Data

I am a high school student in 12th standard at Indus International School in Bangalore.

I am currently doing a study on urban development and its affect on water resources in the Whitefield area (suburb east of Bangalore around Ramagondanahalli.) My mentor and I are looking for information on ground water reserves in this region. Would you know if it is possible to obtain a basic ground water map? Also, data on fluctuations of ground water levels in the area over time? It would be ideal to get two samples from different years. For example, changes in groundwater levels over the course of the year 2000 and another set of readings for 2008.

Secondly, we have come to understand that most of the water pumped to this region comes from pumping stations along the Kaveri River in Maddur, Kanakpura, and Channapatna. We would like to know how much the government pumps from the river and what percentage of that goes towards this newly urbanized area. Finally, we are wondering where to find information about the government owned Torekadanahalli tank 40km away from Bangalore.

Dear Jeremie, Please find the response to a query raised earlier in the forum at http://www.indiawaterportal.org/ask/5417. This may be useful. The data and documentation section of this forum (http://www.indiawaterportal.org/ask/5166) of the forum has lots of data related queries answered in the past. Browse through this for more info. Contacting the Local Ground Water Dept. and CGWB which monitor ground water levels and publish such reports for every area in the country may be useful. Ramesh
