Fluctuating water levels in borewell, Devanahalli Road - Bangalore
Hi everyone,
Let me first start off by telling that any help from the experts will be really appreciated. The last few weeks has been stressful as we are all worried about the borewell failure.
We had a borewell dug up on 01/07/2010 upto 860 feet, casing upto 90 feet. We got just dry solid rock powder. At 620 feet there was a gap with different kind of soil which lasted upto 10 feet.
Next day when we slowly lowered a bottle with a rope, we got water at 727 feet.
After 1 week, when we tried again we got water at 443 feet.
After 10 days, on trying again we got water at 290 feet.
So I would like to know whether this is just storage water or is there a presence of any small water stream.
Since it is in the North East direction we are very much concerned about this borewell.
Please suggest us what needs to be done.
Thanks

1. Fluctuating water levels in borewell,
Dear Rohit,
As you have mentioned that the water level is rising with every day that passes by.
This indicates that you have struck some small quantity of water while drilling, which probably has gone un-noticed, or the quantity was so low that it cause the dust to stop for a short period of time and then re start once again.
Secondly you are experiencing a phenomenon which is termed as delayed yield.
However the rate at which the water is rising in the well is indicating that the yield is very low.
The first reading that you have taken is the most important. This has indicated a rise of 133ft of water column in the borewell which is about 700 liters in the time you stopped drilling to the time you took the measurements.
Water in the borewell usually rises to a level that is equivalent to the pressure it is under- and is usually above the regional water table.
The fact that the rise in water table was much faster as compared to the rise observed after a week or 10 days, is indicative of the fact that you have struck this water bearing zone below 443 ft. and to get benefit from this the pump has to be installed below this level.
But as the quantity of water is very low it is not advisiable to install any kind of pump .
As regards the N-E direction, I will only like to say, that it does not matter in which loction you manage to find and tap groundwater. I say this because in VASTU the concept of borewell or dynamic water conditions ( moving water) has not been considered. As a matter of fact it only takes in to consideration a shallow stagnant water body, which needs to be open to sky and which is exposed to early morning sun rays.
What you would like to think is up to you, and the person who is tellign you regards the location of the borewells in NE being ideal.
