2. I would like to know what

I would like to know what exactly you mean by “Safe Drinking Water is the Focus area of Rotary International” ?  Are you proposing to spend your money and efforts in actually providing safe drinking water to say 100 people; or will you be providing customized training followed by hand-holding on how to obtain safe drinking water to say 1,000 people; or do you propose to emphasize the importance of safe drinking water to say 10,000 people; ?

3. Dear Mr. Shah, Thank you very

Dear Mr. Shah,

Thank you very much for selecting Safe Drinking Water as your focus area and also for taking up the approach for spreading awareness on the same.

In this connection, I like to put forward the following points for your consideration.

(a)    At first, one Base Line Survey ( BLS ) should be conducted to know the present status on water usage, practice, knowledge level, location specific issues and culture etc. among the community.

(b)   Based on the findings of the BLS, priority areas and targets  should be selected.

(c)    Next step is the finalization of implementation stakeholders ( preferably local women / leaders for creating awareness ),  and development of IEC ( Information, Education and Communication ) materials as well as action plan for IEC activities.

(d)   All IEC activities should be area / location / community specific and target audience oriented with a special focus on water and health linkages.

(e)    Implementation of well planned module of the action plan for awareness generation and time to time orientation of the stakeholders.

(f)     Generation of feedbacks and analysis.

Thanking you.

4. Info

Dear Mr. Shah,

Microbial quality, Chemical components like fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, iron and high salinity are some of the issues in our country with respect to potable water. Microbiological quality is the problem with surface water whereas ground water can be contaminated with any of the other components (fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, iron and high salinity) in some areas. Tests kits are available commercially for the detection of these contaminants. BIS, India and many other regulations have recommended allowable limits for drinking water.

Department of drinking water and UNICEF, Water aid are some of the organizations you can approach, for IEC material on these.

I have also given few sites and attached few files which may help in preparing material for awareness programs.
