WaterAid has been coordinating a flood relief program in Bihar since 1st September 2008 through the VISHWAS network that includes the partners NGOs mentioned in the earlier mail below. The districts for intervention are Araria and Supaul where the interventions are benefiting nearly 15,000 persons in a total of 6 relief camps(three in each district).

The following activities have been completed : installation of deep bore hand pumps as drinking water sources, community level latrines with bathing, washing spaces and a shallow hand pump, water disinfection, solid waste management, provision of safe drinking water through storage in tanks with motorized pumps, distribution of general hygiene kits and menstrual hygiene material, provision of infant milk powder, ICDS approved nutritious diet supplement for pregnant and lactating mothers. The major emphasis all along has been on hygiene awareness that has been done through contextualized, locally relevant means like street play performances, individual interactions by the team of volunteers stationed at the camps and posters with relevant messages.
