People's Science Institute: GIS based Village Information System for Haryana

Image & News Courtesy: Village Information System People's Science Institute announces the integration of Haryana into the web-GIS based Village Information System (VIS), which aims to provide detailed information on every village, district and state. The VIS displays data about 175 parameters of demographic, social welfare, infrastructure and land use from the 1991 and 2001 census in the form of maps, tables and figures. The system was formally launched in June, 2007and is available online at http://www.villageinformationsystem.org. The system was initially developed for the state of Uttarakhand only and currently is in the process of incorporating more data. Meteorological data is also made available through a link to the India Water Portal Meteorology data page. Several facilities are available for users, one can create, query and print their own maps through interactive maps. They can also download ready made thematic maps in Portable Document Format on various data sets. The user interface is intuitive and easily navigable.
