Dorabji Tata Trust seeking proposals in SRI and diversion-based Irrigation

Forwarded to the Portal by Mr. Biswanath Sinha, SDTT=========== Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts are seeking applications from NGOs, Research Institutions, and Universities on promotion of System of Rice Intensification and Promotion of Diversion Based Irrigation schemes. Regarding System of Rice Intensification: Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, Mumbai has been supporting SRI promotion for last five years. The experiments in 6 states till 2007 have been very encouraging. After a detailed study in November 2007 on the results of these experiments, the Trust has launched a Program on SRI since April 2008 with an allocation of Rs 1100 lakhs spread over three years. The program targets the small and marginal farmers in paddy growing areas. In the current kharif season the Trust support for SRI has enabled reaching to more than 30,000 households covering more than 6,600 acres of land. The Trust also supports for hosting National Symposiums on SRI in India. The Program covers broadly the following components: • Extension work of SRI • Training of trainers and farmers • Technical support for SRI promotion (e.g. support for weeder) • Research and Advocacy for SRI promotion • Exchange Program • Promotion of Innovation like trying out SRI principles in other crops. For details of the SRI program including application procedure, click here: sri-note-for-circulation-to-outside-audience.doc Diversion-Based Irrigation: A diversion based irrigation system as one which diverts a portion of water from a natural stream/ water course/ river and uses it with or without intermediate storage for the purpose of irrigating crops and for other human ends. Jamsetji Tata Trust under the administration of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT), Mumbai has launched a Program on DBI with an allocation of Rs 1500 lakhs spread over three years.
