The document describes the present situation and the need for involving private institutions, as at present as per the Government water policy, the water supply scheme is handed over to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB’s) for proper maintenance and repair.

However the ULB’s are not able to maintain the scheme due to leakage of water and misuse of water. The failure of the scheme is due to the huge gap between income and expenditure. Due to the lack of sufficient funds for repairs and maintenance, ULB’s are forced to undertake new schemes.
